Karen Everson

I'm a 5th-generation Texan who has lived a lot of other places as well (including New York City and various locations in England). I'm married and proud to identify as a cat-mama who spends my moments of free time watching movies and reading. I learned at an early age what happens when you aren't allowed to express your emotions. I want to give people a place to do that, safely. I have a Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Amberton University (2010). I also studied at Abilene Christian University (BA degrees in history and journalism) and New York University (MA in cinema studies).

I very much am a Person Centered therapist. I have special training as an LGBTQ+ therapist, an EMDR/Trauma therapist, and a play therapist. When I meet a new client I always hope to make them feel safe and understood. I work with clients who feel marginalized, either because they are part of the LGBTQ+ community, because they are on the Autism Spectrum, or just because they have not found a way to belong.

Away from work I'm usually catching up on chores and sleep. I love to travel the backroads of Texas with family. I did a lot of international travel in my 20s and 30s and like to stay closer to home now. If you want to be in a place of trust and acceptance so that you can explore and define present problems, develop future goals for an improved life, and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals.
