James Phan
Licensed Professional Counselor Associate
My name is An, but I also go by James. I like reading comics, science fiction, and philosophy, as well as watching anime. Having navigated my own challenges with mental health, I understand the impact therapy can have, which inspired me to become a therapist and support others. I received my Bachelors at the University of Texas at Austin and my Master's in Community Clinical Psychology at Texas Southern University.
I use a humanistic process in therapy, with an emphasis on understanding each client’s unique subjective experience and providing a space to help them feel validated and heard without judgment. My primary modalities include a mix of Cognitive Behavioral, Person-Centered, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Processing (for trauma), Behavior Modification, and Mindfulness. My goal is to help guide individuals toward a path to discover meaning in their lives through empathetic exploration and support. To navigate through life’s challenges and uncover pathways to living with heightened purpose. I work primarily with adult clients, especially veterans, to help them navigate their specific experiences. Additionally, I welcome any adult individuals looking for support and personal growth.
Outside of GHCS, you can find me trying different types of Asian food, spending time with my dogs, and looking for the next park to visit (as soon as the weather cools down). When I have time off you'll catch me visiting different state parks. My goal is to visit all of the National Parks in the country (I still have a lot to go). I'm the therapist for you if you value a humanistic approach that deeply understands your personal experiences while helping you navigate life's obstacles and uncover pathways to living with greater purpose and fulfillment.
